grant-admin-arch: Grant-Admin-News: Notice from the Bio Directorate at NSF concerning proposal submission

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM THE BIO DIRECTORATE AT NSF

Please share this important reminder with faculty and staff preparing
proposals for the programs in Biology at the National Science Foundation:

The target date for submitting unsolicited proposals to the Biology
Directorate at the National Science Foundation is January 10, 2000. NSF is
reminding applicants to review the guidelines and requirements found in
FastLane, in the Grant Proposal Guide or GPG, and in the BIO Directorate for
submitting applications to the BIO Directorate. During the last
competition, non-compliance with specific instructions resulted in several
proposals being returned to universities without review. The top 4 problems
were:

*	Failure to submit the cover page, project summary, and proposal
classification form via FastLane.
*	Use of font sizes that are too small (NOTE - the 10 pt setting for
some fonts (i.e. Times New Roman) does not meet the limit of 15
characters/2.5 cm).
*	Incomplete Curriculum Vitae (missing lists of graduate advisor(s),
advisees, and collaborators).
*	Non-compliant Curriculum Vitae (too many publications - the limit is
10).

For details on these compliance issues, please refer to the Dear Colleague
letter dated February 8, 1999 from the BIO Directorate on the web at
http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/1999/nsf9983/nsf9983.htm. The Grant Proposal Guide
is at http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2000/nsf002/contents.htm.

Failure to comply may result in a proposal being returned or rejected. Call
ORSA at 6-5131 for assistance with the guidelines or proposal preparation
issues.
