Grant-Admin-News: NSF FastLane Changes

NSF FastLane - System Enhancements and Other Changes

The National Science Foundation's NSF FastLane, an internet proposal and
award management system located at
https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/fastlane.htm, has some new features and
changes of interest to both faculty PIs and department grant
administrators (DGAs).

*	All future notices of changes to FastLane will be published only
through NSF Custom News Service, located at
http://www.nsf.gov/home/cns/. PIs and DGAs are urged to subscribe to
this free email notification system for important and timely information
on FastLane and other programs and policies at NSF. The FastLane
notices may be selected under Program Announcements and Information as a
subset, and are included when All Program Announcements are chosen.

*	FastLane has available a new booklet, FastLane Proposal
Preparation and Submission Guide, in PDF format which addresses user log
in requirements, proposal preparation, and other features at
https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/fastlane.htm.

*	Files may be uploaded into the proposal in FastLane in a variety
of formats, including Word, WordPerfect, PostScript, TeX, and PDF. NSF
reminds us not to use "fit to page" in the PDF version, as the fonts
will distort when NSF prints the proposal. More information can be
found on the FastLane web site under What's New at
https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/a0/fastlane_news.htm. Regardless of the
file format used, always proof read the uploaded file to ensure that it
meets NSF requirements for font size, page limitations, headings and
page numbers, and that it prints out correctly and completely.

*	Passwords forgotten or needing to be changed may be reset
automatically through a new feature that is available any time and
without assistance from NSF or the sponsored research office. Go to the
log in screen for any module and select Password Reset.

*	Revised proposal budgets can now be prepared in FastLane in a
new separate module. PIs can assign a PIN to the budget module so other
users may access and work on the budget. Senior personnel can now be
added to revised proposal budgets. Revised budgets submitted to NSF via
FastLane do NOT require a signed paper copy to be mailed to NSF.

*	Supplements to existing awards may be requested in a new
separate module and must include, at minimum, a summary of the work to
be accomplished, a justification, and a budget. A printed and signed
copy of the budget must be mailed to NSF within 5 working days of
submission; however, a cover sheet does not have to be signed or mailed
at this time.
