TRAVEL AWARD PROGRAM 
FOR 
DEPARTMENT GRANT ADMINISTRATORS

We are pleased to announce a new travel award program for UO staff whose
positions include, in part or in whole, responsibilities for
administering grants (referred to as Department Grant Administrators or
DGAs).   Funding has been provided by the Vice Provost for Research,
Richard Linton, to help defray travel costs associated with professional
training and development for personnel who provide direct administrative
support to faculty with grants and contracts.  

The Office of Research Services and Administration (ORSA) will
administer the travel award program which, along with some matching
funds provided by the unit, will assist DGAs in obtaining the most
current knowledge and skills through participation in regional or
national meetings and workshops on research administration.

Applicants must justify a seminar, workshop or meeting supported by the
Travel Award as directly benefitting the individual grant administrator
and the DGA's administrative unit (department, institute, or center).
In addition, the unit must pay a portion of the expense, depending on
total travel and registration costs. 

FIRST EVENT OPEN TO AWARD

The first event open for the Travel Award program is the NIH Regional
Seminar, to be held in Portland, OR on June 7 and 8.  Details on the
seminar, registration and costs are found on the OHSU web site below.
The deadline for submitting applications to ORSA for the Travel Award to
attend this meeting is APRIL 16, 2001.  

The Travel Award Application Form is available on ORSA's web site under
"Training" at http://orsa.uoregon.edu as an interactive PDF form which
can be filled out and printed from the web.  The full guidelines for the
Travel Award program and a budget template are also on this web page.
