Grant Admin News: Upcoming Workshops on Research Administration
The Office of Research Services and Administration (ORSA) is now taking
registrations for the following spring term workshops on research
administration. The seminars and computer labs will interest both
faculty principal investigators (PIs) and department grant
administrators (DGAs).
Research Administration 101: A general overview of sponsored project
administration at UO. This session will cover proposal preparation and
clearance through post-award administration issues. You will hear how
ORSA assists with these functions and what your responsibilities
include. Research 101 is designed for new employees as well as
experienced administrators who want a "refresher" course. This is
usually a small group and questions are welcome.
April 23, 8:30-11:30 am, McKenzie Conference Room, ORSA, Riverfront
Research Park.
NSF FastLane (computer lab): The National Science Foundation (NSF) now
requires that ALL grant proposals be submitted electronically through
the web-based NSF FastLane system. FastLane must be used for award
administration functions, and annual and final project reporting, as
well. The hands-on computer session takes you through the proposal
preparation module step-by-step, and includes tips on how to upload
various types of files to the proposal. Both the UO and NSF proposal
preparation and submission guidelines are covered, along with an
overview of the other modules available in FastLane.
Register for either April 23, 3:00-5:00 pm, or April 24, 9:00-11 am. The
session is held at the UO Employee Training Facility, Suite 302
University Center Building, 720 E 13th Ave. (across from Sacred Heart
Hospital on 13th and next to the Dairy Queen).
Cost Transfers for Grants and Contracts: ORSA reviews all journal
vouchers that transfer costs on grants and contracts. You'll learn the
policies and regulations behind cost transfers from or to grant accounts
in order to pass audit requirements and ORSA's review.
April 30, 9-11 am, Alsea Room-EMU.
Activity Reporting: The Activity Reporting System (ARS) is a critical
part of grant administration and is often confusing or misunderstood. It
is used to document faculty and staff effort on grants as either direct
pay or cost share, as well as other types of cost share required on
sponsored projects, including third-party contributions. In addition to
covering granting agency and UO policies, the session will go over the
ARS forms and how they should be completed.
May 2, 9-11 am, Alsea Room-EMU.
Project Close Outs: A general overview of the grant and contract close
out process, including technical and financial reporting, account
reconciliation, and fun facts about file retention.
May 13, 9-11 am, Alsea Room-EMU.
Proposal Clearance and Submission: This session will explain the UO
Proposal Clearance Form, a form required for all proposals submitted by
the UO to external sponsors-what kind of information is required and
why. Helpful hints on using the on-line Proposal Processing System or
PPS, and filling out the PDF version of the clearance form, will be
covered.
May 22, 9-11 am. Alsea Room-EMU.
