Grant Admin News: Research Administration Training - Fall 2002
The UO Office of Research Services and Administration (ORSA) is offering
workshops to faculty and staff on topics related to research
administration. The seminars and computer labs will interest both
department grant administrators and faculty principal investigators
(PIs). Following are the Fall 2002 sessions:
* Cost Sharing and Activity Reporting--What is cost-sharing, are they
"real" dollars, what are the ramifications of failing to meet our
commitments? What is Activity Reporting, why is it required? This
seminar will provide an insight into why these issues are important, how
cost sharing and activity reporting form an integrated system and can
eliminate the need for additional departmental record keeping.
Date: 10/14/02
Time: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Place: EMU -- Alsea Room
* NSF FastLane--The National Science Foundation (NSF) requires that ALL
grant proposals be submitted electronically through the web-based NSF
FastLane system. FastLane must be used for award administration
functions, and annual and final project reporting, as well. This
hands-on computer workshop will cover proposal preparation, project
reporting, status checks, extensions, and other uses. The workshop is
open to all faculty principal investigators who plan to submit
proposals to, or currently have grants from, NSF and to department
grant administrators who assist PIs with their proposals and awards.
Presented by Karen Findtner and Steve Shapiro
Date: 10/18/02
Time: 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Place: UO Employee Training Facility, Suite 302 University Center

* Research Administration 101--A general overview of sponsored projects
(grants and contracts) administration at UO, including proposal
preparation and submission, account set-up, post award activities, and
"who is supposed to be doing what." For those new to the grant arena,
or for anyone wanting a refresher course. Presented by Kent Hardin
Date: 10/22/02
Time: 9:00-11:00 a.m.
Place: EMU-- Rogue Room
* Banner FIS Grants Module Basic Training--This class will introduce
the Banner user to all the FIS screens available in the Banner Grants
Module. The general accounting screens and reports in Banner do not
cross the fiscal year and thus are not appropriate for grant accounting.
You will want to see all various ways that grant information can be
viewed, reported and analyzed in the Grants Module. Presented by Tim
