Grant Admin News: Grant Admin Workshops Offered



As part of the annual series of workshops on grant administration, ORSA
is offering the following educational opportunities this spring to all
faculty principal investigators and department grant administrators.
Call 6-5131 to reserve a spot in any session (space is limited).
All training sessions will be held in the UO Employee Training Facility
located at Suite 302 University Center Building, 720 E 13th Ave.
(opposite Sacred Heart Hospital and next to the Dairy Queen, above
Mother Kali's Books).

Developing Budgets for Grant Proposals - The first of two workshops on
budget development and management.  This session includes elements of a
budget, categories and rates, agency guidelines and forms, cost sharing,
F&A, subcontracts, the approval process, and basic spreadsheet templates
to use in building a budget.  (presenters:  Lin Reilly, Karen Findtner)
May 16, 10 a.m. - 12:00.

NSF FastLane - Using the web-based FastLane system from National Science
Foundation for proposal preparation, reports, status checks, extensions,
and other uses.  (presenters: Kent Hardin, Diana Evans, Steve Shapiro)
May 20,  9:00 a.m. - 11:00.

Grant Management Tools - The second of a two-part series on budget
development and management, this workshop features hands-on use of
various electronic tools for managing a sponsored project:  spreadsheets
for tracking financial status of grant funds and personnel funding
plans, a "burn rate" chart for forecasting when the money will come in
or run out, and several Banner FIS reports available as planning tools.

OTHER WORKSHOPS COMING UP:

ORSA also subscribes to the annual Video Workshop Series sponsored by
the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA).  The
series features expert panelists on various topics related to research
administration.  The next topic, "Exploring the Lifecycle of Costs:
Budget to Audit," is scheduled for June 24, 2003.  The broadcast, at no
charge to faculty and staff, will be presented in the Library, Media
Services- Studio A.  Call ORSA at 6-5131 to register.
