Participant Costs

When conferences, training activities, seminars, or workshops are supported by a grant, participants may receive stipends, travel and per diem, and other related support from the grant if allowed under the agency program guidelines. The number of anticipated participants and a breakdown of costs for each should be included in the budget justification. Both UO participant and non-university participant costs are excluded from the indirect cost base when the negotiated indirect cost rates are applied. For those grants with indirect cost rates at less than the negotiated rates, such as 8% on some training grants, all costs are included in the indirect cost base unless specifically excluded by the funding agency (e.g., NIH excludes tuition only and U.S.Dept. Education excludes stipends, tuition and fees, and equipment of $5,000 or more).
